Petiquette for the Howlidays

If you want to score holiday invitations for your dog, don't act like a bonehead. The New York Times recently published a great article, "Who Invited the Dog?".

After reading it I was amazed and appalled that no one suggested keeping the dog leashed and under control from the moment he walked in. So here is a word to the wise: As a host you have the right to insist on the dog be kept under control. I'll bet Victoria Stilwell would agree that if "pet parent" guest is unhappy with this suggestion, he or she is welcome to party elsewhere!

Pet Business Success, part 2

As a piggy back on the topic of "101 Best Businesses for Pet Lovers" I interviewed another local success story.

Petlicious Dog Bakery and Spa in Pewaukee nine years ago. Karen and Dave worked in the corporate world and happened to own a Samoyed with special nutritional needs. They started cooking for him and after much experimentation they packaged and sold the canine treats at various events. They still take their show on the road but their home base has expanded to a kitchen, store and spa where they welcome customer daily and host popular special events.

Wisconsin Pet Business Success Stories

Last week on Your Family Pet I talked to the author of "101 Best Businesses for Pet Lovers." Since Wisconsin is the home of a menagerie of pet business success stories, naturally I invited some locals to talk about their experience.

Kim Hecker is the owner of The Natural Pet in Bayview. If you think you are too busy to pursue your passion, Kim's story will either inspire to abandon your excuses or make you feel apathetic and uninspired.

Kim is one of the founders of GRROW and developed a keen interest in holistic pet health practices. She works full time at Rockwell but that didn't prevent her from opening The Natural Pet four years ago. Her store has unusual hours (evenings and weekends only) but it bubbles with energy thanks to the products they carry and helpful guidance they provide to clients.

Pet Lover's Business

Last week on Your Family Pet I interviewed the coauthor of 101 Best Business for Pet Lovers, Nicholas Nigro. I know there are a lot of people who don't love their job, do love pets, and have an unfulfilled dream. If that describes you or someone you know, get this book today. Check out the list of topics covered if you are still unconvinced.
